Black Capped Chickadees
One of the best ways to attract birds is to provide them with a variety of small fruited trees. The capped chickadee "migrates" from the wooded areas where they mostly dwell in the summer to yards in the winter being mostly attracted by these various trees and feeders. They require the equivalent of one hundred fifty sunflower seeds a day so feeders are very important to their survival over a long cold winter. Balls of suet are also helpful to keep up their body fat without which they cannot survive. They are by far the most frequent visitors to a backyard feeder and provide many hours of pleasure to those who will feed and protect them.
